Cape Fear Framing Company: Handcrafted from Cape Fear Riverwood
The Story
Cape Fear Framing Co. was born of the idea that a spectacular, one-of-a-kind photograph deserves a frame with equal impact and meaning. My own desire to frame my work in something more than a bland pre-manufactured frame drove me to search for a superior, more interesting material…which led me to the locally grown and reclaimed Cape Fear Riverwood.
Seems like a lot of trouble for just a picture frame? Not once you have seen the finished product, and once you realize your one-of-a-kind photograph is truly displayed in a one-of-a-kind frame! There is not (nor will there be) another like it!
The Wood
The only element left to chance in a Cape Fear custom frame is whether it’s a pine or cypress log that the grappling claw pulls from the bottom of the Cape Fear river! Once on board, each log is inspected and carefully followed throughout its entire transition into a Cape Fear Framing Co. custom frame.
Once chosen, our logs are all quarter-sawn (think the tenderloin of wood…the oldest and stongest…the heart of the tree) into planks which are individually evaluated for grain quality.
Our woods are centuries old (as verified by the tight growth rings and sheer weight), and therefore yield frames that simply cannot be recreated with today’s manufacturing processes. Cheaper…yes. Comparable beauty and quality…no.
The finished wood is hand-sanded and stained with custom-formulated stains made specifically to highlight the beauty of the particular wood—with each finished frame displaying a color, tone and character of its own.
Truly one of a kind.
