“Please be very quiet…here the Royal male displays his wares to the Royal female…Oh my!”

*whisper* “As is often the case, the first advance is not well received and the Royal male decides a dip in the water to freshen up is in order…wise choice indeed”

“AND HE’S UP!…and look at his plummage, his hair is standing straight up!”

“Oh my Lord, we have another suitor trying to attract the female’s attention with a fresh fish…very cunning! But the original Royal will have nothing of it…this could be a fight to the death…while mounted for God’s sake!”

“My God, he’s approaching from above…ingenious!”

“AND WE HAVE A DOUBLE MOUNT…INCREDIBLE…NEVER SEEN BEFORE!!!”

“Oh my word…a very awkward dismount…unsophisticated to say the least.”

“Right when I thought we had seen it all, a commoner is attempting a liaison with a Royal…this could turn ugly.”

*whisper* “Let’s close with the Royal Tern in his finest…what a show!”

*whisper* “And please tune in tomorrow where we will see the  frantic mating of the Snowy Egret…quite a display…some might say raunchy!”

Luckily the clouds cooperated enough to dampen the glare for a few good ones. Combining a teenager and a toddler can sometimes be tough…worked out great this time!

What a sport and what a great end to one of my most productive shoots ever. Talk about the camera LOVING a model. I selected 50 keepers and could have easily selected another 150. While I do most of my shooting on or near the beach, I am lovin’ walking downtown Wilmington looking for locations…and they are endless!

We started AT the fountain and ended IN the fountain! Fantastic shoot! Perfect model (In my book!)

This looks like studio lighting…nope, in a stairwell with a reflector…and a beautiful model!

Great guy from Charlotte contacts me wanting pictures of him proposing to his beautiful girlfriend…can do! Given there’s about 10-15 seconds of ACTION that has to go off flawlessly we preplan every step…scouting, angle of approach, my position and my alibi, flower photog! And yes it occurs to me that missing the shot is NOT an option so I strap on an extra camera, cards, lens cloths, batteries (for a 30 minute shoot)!

I’m wandering around the location “shooting flowers” when they walk by me…”Nice day today!”

And BAM! After the Charlotte Observer picked up the story, this video has been viewed over 5000 times!

“Now, WHAT just happened?!?!”

The location was crazy good!

“you know, I DO like the looks of that!”

It comes to mind because I’ve been mentoring/teaching a young lady obsessed with improving her photography. She works 10-12 hour days at the vet that cares for my lab Bella and THEN finds times to shoot! When? Before 7AM and after 7PM. I shoot then too…I just don’t then go to a full time job. She wants it.

Yesterday she brought 1500 images over she shot last week for me to look at. The smile that came across her face whenever I marked one as a keeper…priceless!!!

Is she talented? You be the judge. I can say she will become talented because she has the desire and determination…period. (See the Myth of Talent by Craig Tanner)

Here’s a bit of her work from the past few weeks some of which I’m selling for her on my website.

Best I can figure, a week long celebration (party) of the azalea bush…damn fine bush! So, at the invitation of my friend Emma, I grabbed my camera and we made a day of it!

First up you got Belles…lots of ‘em in their “Gone with the Wind” finery. I imagine there was a huge sigh of relief when the “hoop gown”/tent went out of fashion!

You got soldiers/cadets too…adds to the flavor! Don’t understand why the chin strap goes under their nose instead of the chin…neither do they.

And you have Belles holding babies…cute ones!

This is our golf cart driver…I’m taking up golf this Monday! (shot in side mirror of cart)

Great location for family photos…free of charge in this case!

Couldn’t help but think back to those days and the fear and trepidation I felt about whether I had enough money for beer for the party that night!

Day 2, roof top shoot for video I’m doing…cool view!

Day 3, last leg/wrap up of 4 day shoot for Corporate client in Raleigh…corralling 12 people and getting them all to look at the camera…not easy!

Day 4, photo outing/workshop with “shooter girl”…thought about calling in sick but glad I didn’t! (Photographs by Allison Mize)

Day 5, Supermoon over Wrightsville! Had to complicate it with two Harley’s. There is a reason you don’t see people riding big bikes in soft sand.

Day 6. The amazing 3 year old, upside down boy who likes to stick his tongue out. Great ending to a fantastic shooting spree!
